The Bahá’í House of Worship in Europe
The European Bahá’í House of Worship is situated in the village of Langenhain, which is in one of the municipal districts of the city of Hofheim, which in turn is twinned with Tiverton. It was designed by Teuto Rochall and officially dedicated in July 1964 after three and a half years of construction.
Bahá’í houses of worship are places for reflection, prayer and meditation. They are focal points for the commemoration of the Creator, for the expression of love between God and humankind, and are spiritual havens for everyone irrespective of one’s worldview, nationality, skin colour or language.
“Blessed is the spot, and the house,
and the place, and the city,
and the heart, and the mountain,
and the refuge, and the cave,
and the valley, and the land,
and the sea, and the island,
and the meadow where mention of God hath been made,
and His praise glorified.”
(Bahá’u'lláh)
At the entrance of the grounds of the European Bahá’í House of Worship is a Visitor Centre where further information on all aspects of the Bahá’í Faith and its teachings can be found and where enquirers can enjoy an impressive audio-visual show, which is available in several different languages, over a cup of tea and biscuits. A bookshop, where Bahá’í literature and audio-visual materials may be purchased, can be found upstairs in this building.
Also in the grounds of the Bahá’í House of Worship is the German National Bahá’í Centre, which houses the Secretariat of the German National Spiritual Assembly. It also contains a spacious conference hall.
