Setting Personal Goals

16 06 2010

About ten years ago, when I first came back to Tiverton and moved into my own flat, I set myself some personal goals and compiled a ‘Personal Action Plan’ in order to achieve those goals.

Just recently, while I was going through my filing cabinet, I came across the sheet of paper on to which I had typed this ‘Personal Action Plan’. I’m ashamed to admit that very few of the goals that were listed in that action plan had been achieved. Perhaps it’s because I made the mistake of filing my action plan away. What I should have done was pin it up in a prominent position in my home so that it was constantly in sight to remind me each day of my plans to teach the Bahá’í Faith to my friends, neighbours and others that I might have met in my daily life.

No matter, I will take action NOW to pin it up on the door of my kitchen cabinet so that I can belatedly pursue the goals I set myself all those years ago. As the weeks pass I will constantly review these goals and tick them off as I achieve them and add new ones to take their place. One goal that can be ticked off straight away is the creation of a Bahá’í website for Tiverton (The Tiverton Bahá’í) and for Devon (the Bahá’ís of Devon Facebook group). However, there is room for improvement on both of these achievements so I won’t rest on my laurels just yet.

I’m on Twitter!

28 01 2010

The Tiverton Bahá’í now has a Twitter account and I am following other Bahá’ís and Bahá’í organizations from across the world (and they are following me). It means that posts on this blog can be publicized much more widely. I’m already exchanging tweets with fellow Bahá’ís who want to know more about me and my ‘community’.

So, if you want to join in the conversation, be sure to follow The Tiverton Bahá’í on Twitter.

‘Thought of the Day’ section added

28 01 2010

I’ve just spent some time over the past few days updating this site, and I’ve introduced a ‘Thought of the Day’ section on the Home page. This new section will contain short extracts from the Bahá’í writings that I hope will inform and inspire you. It will be updated on a daily basis. Trust me, it will!!

Devon Bahá’í Cluster Meeting

17 05 2009

I’ve just returned from the Devon Bahá’í Cluster meeting, where we had a very fruitful discussion about what the friends wanted from a local Bahá’í presence on the Web. It looks as though a group of us with IT skills will be getting together to decide on the way forward in this matter.

In respect of other activities, after finding out what other Bahá’í communities are doing, and focusing on what people in general are looking for from the Bahá’í Faith, I shall be reviewing my personal action plan and putting into effect several ideas I’ve had to increase the visibility of the Faith in the Tiverton area. One thing I shall be starting is a devotional meeting every Tuesday evening. Further information will be posted on the home page of The Tiverton Bahá’í. I will also be making some changes to this website. So watch this space!

The Tiverton Bahá’í is ready to roll!

16 05 2009

After a lot of hard work constructing the site, The Tiverton Bahá’í is ready to be launched tomorrow at the Devon Bahá’í cluster meeting in Chudleigh. I hope that I will be able to persuade the Bahá’ís there to create their own websites or blogs. Creating a website nowadays is so easy, especially if you use something like WordPress to do it.

For those Bahá’ís who want a website specifically for the Bahá’ís of Devon, I have also created a group page on Facebook, so that they can post information about their local activities, invite fellow Bahá’ís to their events, and discuss matters of interest in a forum.

The next job I have to do is start advertising The Tiverton Bahá’í across the Web. Technorati, anybody?
